Imperiale J. M. (2005)EVC Documentary Focuses on Immigration IssuesA seventeen year old young woman returned to New York from St. Lucia. Immediately upon her return, she was held at a U.S. Immigration detention center
for four years. Her crime: a misdemeanor when she was thirteen years old and an immigration status that left her with virtually no rights.
Her story is one of two primary stories, both focusing on immigrants from the Caribbean, in the new documentary being produced by the Educational
Video Center (EVC), an award-winning not-forprofit organization in New York City. EVC teaches video and documentary skills to youth as a means to develop the artistic, academic, and career skills of at-risk youth, according to its Mission Statement.Another new documentary will focus on undocumented immigrants coming out of high school.
